Miami defeated Notre Dame 27-24 in dramatic fashion on Sunday night.

The Canes built up a 21-7 midway through the third quarter, but their offense stalled out for 4 consecutive drives. That allowed Notre Dame to get back into the game — and eventually the Fighting Irish were able to tie things up at 24-24 with just over 3 minutes left in the ball game.

Carson Beck then engineered what turned out to be the game-winning drive. Miami kicker Carter Davis came through in the clutch with a 47-yard field goal to give Miami a 27-24 lead with just over a minute remaining.

It was then CJ Carr’s turn to respond. Carr and Notre Dame got one first down, but an intentional grounding penalty followed by a sack ultimately ended the game. Notre Dame was out of timeouts on its final drive and was unable to generate much momentum offensively in the final minute.

For Beck, this was his first game action since injuring his elbow while playing for Georgia in last year’s SEC Championship Game. He threw for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win.

Miami has now won back-to-back games in this series and is 9-18-1 all-time against the Fighting Irish.
