Rapid Reaction: Ohio State shuts down Arch Manning in win over No. 1 Texas
Ohio State defeated Texas 14-7 on Saturday afternoon in Columbus.
It was a shocking and disappointing performance for the Longhorns, who were looking to avenge their loss to Ohio State in last year’s College Football Playoff. Instead, Texas struggled to move the ball offensively all game long.
It was a nightmare debut on the national stage for the much-hyped Arch Manning. He threw for just 170 yards on 30 pass attempts with 1 touchdown and 1 interception.
Texas did reach the red zone a couple of times in the second half, but was unable to score any points until there was 3:28 left in the game. Manning came up short on a QB sneak in the red zone in UT’s first opportunity. Later in the half, Texas’s drive stalled out inside the 10-yard line after Manning was unable to find a receiver in the end zone on fourth-and-3.
Manning did finally get Texas on the score board with a touchdown pass to freshman Parker Livingstone. However, it proved to be too little, too late.
Defensively, Texas did enough to compete in this game. The Longhorns were able to bother Julian Sayin and Jeremiah Smith for much of the afternoon, the Buckeyes still found their way into the end zone for a couple of touchdowns on the afternoon.
