Oklahoma defeated Auburn 24-17 on Saturday night in Norman.
The Sooners prevailed in a hard-fought defensive game. Auburn was able to move the ball with some big plays, the Sooners registered a program record 10 sacks against Tigers quarterback Jackson Arnold.
The final sack of the game was the nail in the coffin. Facing a fourth-and-29th, Arnold was brought down in the end zone by R Mason Thomas to give the Sooners a safety that virtually ended the game.
Arnold threw for 220 yards and 1 touchdown in his return to Norman. However, his inability to deal with OU’s pass rush proved to be the decisive factor in this contest.
As for Oklahoma, John Mateer was once again the catalyst. He threw for 271 yards and 1 touchdown while also rushing for the score that proved to be the game-winner late in the fourth quarter.
