Oklahoma rolled Temple on Saturday, 42-3.
On the heels of a statement victory over Michigan last weekend in Norman, the Sooners ventured out on the road for the first time this season and showed no signs of an emotional hangover. They scored on each of their first 4 possessions — 3 of them touchdowns — while giving Temple just 1 first down on its first 4 possessions.
The Sooners were up 28-3 at the halftime break, scored twice more in the third, and turned in a complete defensive performance. Temple had 41 yards of total offense on 26 plays in the second half. Fifteen run plays gained 14 yards.
Oklahoma didn’t turn the Owls over with any frequency — the Sooners committed the only turnover of the day — but rather simply lined up and stone-walled the Owl offense play after play after play. OU recorded a tackle for loss on 20% of Temple’s offensive snaps.
Quarterback John Mateer threw for 282 yards and ran for 63 yards. He found the endzone twice. Tailback Tory Blaylock ran 14 times for 100 yards and 2 scores. Isaiah Sategna caught 7 passes for 97 yards.
The offense did its thing, but the defense was the story of the day for the Sooners. Temple got nothing at any point throughout the game. The Owls were held to 1.9 yards per play and a 3.7% explosive play rate. OU had a 22.8% explosive rate.
The Sooners (3-0) open SEC play at home next Saturday against Auburn (3-0). Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
