Rapid Reaction: Ole Miss comes back from double-digit deficit to beat Kentucky
Ole Miss fell behind early, but ultimately outlasted Kentucky to move to 2-0 on the young season.
The Rebels found themselves trailing 10-0 early in the first half after a pair of Austin Simmons interceptions gave the Wildcats good field position on back-to-back drives. But Ole Miss was able to claw out of that whole before half time and then hang on in the fourth quarter for a 30-23 victory.
It was still a rough day overall for Simmons, who ended up leaving this game with what appeared to be a knee injury in the fourth quarter. He finished 13-of-24 for 235 yards and 2 interceptions. However, he did rush for 44 yards and 1 touchdown in the win.
Running back Kewan Lacy continues to look like a difference-maker. He ran the ball 28 times for 138 yards and a touchdown.
As for Kentucky, the Wildcats look like they’re in for another rough season. Zach Calzada was removed from this game after sustaining an apparent shoulder injury. He completed 15 of his 30 passes for just 149 yards. He was replaced by Cutter Boley, who went 1-for-3 through the air but did complete a 38-yard pass to set up a last-minute field goal for the Wildcats.
Ole Miss will host Arkansas in Week 3 while Kentucky looks for a win against Eastern Michigan.
