Texas A&M crushed LSU 49-25 on Saturday night in Baton Rouge. This victory marks Texas A&M’s first road win over LSU since 1994.

Although this was a close game at the half, the Aggies were able to easily separate from their old SEC West vials after the break. Texas A&M scored 35 consecutive points in the second half — a run that LSU only stopped with a garbage-time touchdown with just under a minute remaining in the game.

Garrett Nussmeier struggled mightily, as he has for much of the season. Nussmeier was ultimately lifted from this game midway through the fourth quarter after the outcome was no longer in question. He threw for just 168 yards on 35 pass attempts.

Marcel Reed, on the other hand, was sensational despite a couple of early interceptions. He threw for 202 yards and 2 touchdowns on 21 pass attempts, making it a very efficient night through the air. Reed also led the Aggies in rushing with 108 yards and 2 more scores on the ground.

Texas A&M out-gained LSU by nearly 3 yards per play — 7 to 4.2. The Aggies also went 7-of-10 on third down while the Tigers were just 2-of-13.

Texas A&M stayed in the national title race by beating LSU for the second consecutive year. That’s the first winning streak by either team in series history since LSU won the last of 7 consecutive in 2017.
