Arkansas Baptist College’s Thaddeus Watis, 20, was tragically shot and killed on Christmas Eve, according to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette.
Watis, a freshman who played multiple positions, was among two people killed, and he died at the scene from a gunshot wound just before 11:30 p.m. west of New Orleans in Louisiana, per the report citing St. James Parish Sheriff Willy Martin Jr. Another man, Dedrick Paul Green Jr., died during transport to the hospital.
Watis was found near Neighborhood Quick Stop Groceries. A 15-year-old and Jerrell Moody, 25, were also shot, and the two remained in the hospital on Christmas Day.
“We were really excited about him as a player,” Arkansas Baptist head coach Richard Wilson said Tuesday. “He’s the kid that [coaches] bragged on every day. It just hasn’t sunk in with me yet.”
Watis was from Convent, Louisiana, which is about 12 miles from where he was tragically killed.
