Following five on-field assistants leaving the program since the loss to Clemson — Mike Locksley (Maryland), Dan Enos (Miami), Josh Gattis (Michigan), Brent Key (Georgia Tech) and Tosh Lupoi (Cleveland Browns), Nick Saban has had to re-tool his coaching staff once again.
Coaching turnover hit Alabama’s staff last off-season, and it’s the same story this off-season.
Through various media reports over the last month, Alabama has hired multiple assistant coaches — OC Steve Sarkisian, OL coach Kyle Flood, RBs coach Charles Huff, LBs coach Sal Sunseri and DBs coach Charles Kelly — over the last month. The Tide have yet to make the hirings official, but AL.com’s Michael Casagrande confirmed that those five are currently on the university’s payroll.
The five assistants received prorated checks over the last month depending on dates of their hiring. Of the five, Sarkisian recorded the most income with $71,014.49. You can see the others from Casagrande’s report here.
The Tide have also reportedly hired Brian Baker to coach its DL and Holmon Wiggins to coach its WR. However, neither were included on the Tide’s payroll yet.
Rebuilding Alabama’s coaching staff could be an annual off-season event for Saban. Whether he suggests coaches look elsewhere or whether they take promotions, staff turnover could be here to stay in Tuscaloosa.
