College football fans may be seeing less of ESPN’s Booger McFarland this season.
According to The Athletic’s Richard Deitsch, McFarland landed a field analyst position on Monday Night Football, the first ever such role on the broadcast.
Just 10 months ago, McFarland was promoted from the SEC Network to ABC as a studio analyst alongside Mack Brown and new anchor Kevin Negandhi.
McFarland is known for his playing days at LSU (1995-98) and his nine-year NFL career, which included a Super Bowl ring with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But he’s also known for his big voice and strong opinions on college football. McFarland often appeared alongside Paul Finebaum on Sunday mornings during the fall to rehash the college football Saturday.
This is a big promotion for McFarland, who should excel in the role. He will join Jason Witten, Joe Tessitore and Lisa Salters on the broadcast.
