Lane Kiffin is dipping back into his Alabama connections for Ole Miss’ latest hire.
Per AL.com’s Matt Zenitz, Kiffin, the former Alabama offensive coordinator and current Ole Miss head coach, is set to hire Jake Thornton as the Rebels’ new offensive line coach.
Thornton was on Alabama’s staff in 2017 as a graduate assistant, a year after Kiffin left to become FAU’s head coach. He’s currently the running game coordinator and offensive line coach at Gardner-Webb University. He previously coached at FCS Tennessee Tech before landing his current position.
Thornton is widely regarded as one of the best up-and-coming coaches in the ranks. He played for both Carson-Newman and Western Carolina during his standout college career.
Kiffin is set to replace the role vacated by former offensive line coach Randy Clements. Ole Miss fired Clements following spring practice, and it appears that Thornton will be the next to coach the Rebels’ offensive line.
