The LSU Tigers are revamping their defensive coaching staff after a lackluster 2020 campaign.

Out is DC Bo Pelini after only 1 season at the helm of the defense. In is former Minnesota Vikings assistant Daronte Jones as the new defensive coordinator under Ed Orgeron.

Now, it seems the Tigers are nearing a hire for the open DL coach spot, bringing in yet another NFL assistant. Per Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, longtime NFL DE and Jets DL coach Andre Carter is expected to head to Baton Rouge to work under Orgeron and Jones.

Per Feldman, Carter and Jones worked together with the Miami Dolphins. Carter was with the Dolphins from 2017-18, then followed Adam Gase to the New York Jets in 2019.

Will the comfort level Jones has with his assistants lead to more success defensively for the Tigers in 2021? That’s what Coach O seems to be banking on.

UPDATE: LSU has officially announced the hiring of Carter.
