The Alabama coaching staff has undergone a few changes this offseason, but things are starting to come together.

On Monday, the Crimson Tide added an interesting name to the coaching staff as a graduate assistant, per a report.

According to AL.com’s Matt Zenitz, former Alabama DB Shyheim Carter will join the staff as a grad assistant:

Carter was a 2-year starter for the Tide. During his career, he recorded 100 tackles, 6 for a loss, 3 interceptions (2 returned for touchdowns), 18 pass breakups and 2 forced fumbles.

Per 247Sports, coach Nick Saban has long touted Carter’s intelligence and potential as a coach:

“I think Shyheim Carter would fit in probably one of the top two or three players on the team from a knowledge standpoint,” said Saban prior to the 2019-20 football season. “He can answer every question in a meeting about every position. He would be a great, great coach. I think that’s what creates a lot of diversity for him as a player, to be able to play multiple positions because he’s very smart and it means something to him.

“He’s spent a lot of time trying to learn this stuff. He prepares well for the games. I can’t say that one position is more natural for him than the other because he’s always done a pretty good job wherever we’ve decided to put him in.”

It’s unclear at the moment what his responsibilities will be, but it’s probably safe to assume he’ll work with the defensive backs in some capacity.
