Terrible news to share from Houston as a Rice defensive lineman has reportedly been found dead.
When rising senior Blain Padgett failed to show up for a Friday morning workout, his apartment was searched. It was then that his body was discovered in his bed, according to ABC 13 out of Houston.
ABC 13 has shared a statement from Rice head coach Mike Bloomgren following the tragedy:
“Our team is devastated by this news. All of my thoughts right now are how best to help Blain’s family and his teammates in this very difficult period.”
Padgett saw the field in all three seasons he was at Rice. During those three seasons, Padgett racked up 65 tackles, 10.5 tackles-for-loss and 3.5 sacks. There has been no official cause of death reported at this time.
