Houston’s Tom Herman is reportedly the frontrunner to be the next head coach at South Carolina, according to 247Sports.

Herman is in his first season at Houston, where he’s led the Cougars to an 8-0 start.

Before going to Houston, Herman was the offensive coordinator at Ohio State from 2012-14. In 2014, he helped the Buckeyes win the national championship, and won the Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach. He has also been an assistant coach at Iowa State, Rice, Texas State and Sam Houston State.

South Carolina is looking for a replacement for Steve Spurrier, who resigned on Oct. 12. Interim coach Shawn Elliott has gone 1-1 since Spurrier’s resignation.

The article also said that Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, Texas head coach Charlie Strong and Memphis head coach Justin Fuente could be candidates if Herman does not get the job.
