Tennessee’s depth on the offensive line appears poised to face another test as true freshman K’Rojhn Calbert will reportedly redshirt this season and require surgery due to remedy a pre-existing injury.
Last week, junior offensive tackle Chance Hall was ruled out for the season. Hall will also be taking a redshirt season in 2017. Those two aren’t the only two offensive linemen nicked up for the Vols, as freshman Trey Smith, senior Brett Kendrick and sophomore Marcus Tatum have all been battling thru injuries early in fall camp.
Brent Hubbs of Volquest was the first to break the news of Calbert’s redshirt status in Knoxville.
Calbert was a three-star signee in Tennessee’s latest recruiting class. The 6-foot-5, 296-pound Mcminnville, Tenn., native rated as the No. 21 overall prospect from Tennessee and the nation’s No. 63 offensive tackle prospect according to 247Sports Composite Ratings.
Following the news that Hall would be lost for the season, Tennessee offensive line coach Walt Wells indicated he felt his unit still went nine deep. It’s unclear whether Calbert was among those nine, but if he was indeed among them, the freshman clearly was at the back end of the list considering the Volunteers depth at the position heading into fall camp.
