Rodrigo Blankenship becomes first Lou Groza Award winner in Georgia history

Rodrigo Blankenship will leave Georgia as a fan favorite. Now, Hot Rod has made UGA football history as the team’s first Lou Groza Award winner.
The award, given to the nation’s top kicker starting in 1992, was announced at Thursday night’s College Football Awards at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
Blankenship, who beat out Iowa’s Keith Duncan and Washington State’s Blake Mazza, is 25-of-31 on field goals in the 2019 campaign, pushing his career total to 432 points, the highest total in UGA history. This season, Blankenship also tied the SEC record for 198 consecutive made extra points. At 9.6 points per game, Blankenship ranks 12th nationally and 2nd in the SEC.
