Sahvir Wheeler and TyTy Washington had both missed Kentucky’s last 2 games with injuries entering Saturday’s contest at Arkansas. While the Wildcats managed to win both those games without their starting guards, Saturday’s test was much tougher.
The Wildcats got Wheeler and Washington back, but still fell to the Razorbacks 75-73 in Bud Walton Arena.
Wheeler finished the game with 14 points and Washington had 10, but they combined to go just 8 for 25 from the floor. After the game, Wheeler said there was some rust he and Washington were shaking off (via On3 Sports):
“Yeah, definitely [there was some rust],” Wheeler said after the game. “I agree. I feel like TyTy and I had some of that rust when we first got into the game, especially in the first half. But after that, I think our play and our energy picked up in the second half. Just getting into a rhythm, feeling like it was back to normal. We made a run, we got the lead and it was kind of back and forth throughout the whole game.”
Getting Wheeler and Washington back to full strength will be important for Kentucky this upcoming week as the SEC Tournament looms large.
We’ll see how the 2 star guards fare in the final 2 games of Kentucky’s regular season.
