Sam Pittman, Arkansas roasted for giving up fake punt to Notre Dame

When the obituary on the Sam Pittman era in Fayetteville is eventually written following what now appears to be his inevitable departure from the Arkansas Razorbacks, the record may show that an embarrassing fake punt that the Hogs allowed against Notre Dame was the final nail in the coffin for the head coach.

Arkansas exited halftime already down 42-13, and finally forced the Irish into their first punting situation of the day. Notre Dame was pinned back deep in their own territory, but that didn’t stop head coach Marcus Freeman from dialing up some trickery in an effort to catch the Hogs napping.

The Irish special teams crew executed a perfect fake punt to convert a 4th and 10 from their own 25-yard line, springing a pass play that went for 40 yards and flipped the field entirely for Notre Dame, setting them up in prime position deep inside Razorbacks’ territory.

Fans and analysts alike naturally took to social media following the massive letdown by the Hogs, and they didn’t hold back on Pittman:
