Sam Pittman and Arkansas welcome South Carolina to Fayetteville on Saturday for an intriguing game between programs on the upswing across the SEC. Both are searching for a 2-0 start.

Pittman reflected on KJ Jefferson’s performance last week against Cincinnati.

“I thought he played well, especially in the running game,” Pittman said on the SEC coaches media teleconference. “I don’t think we were at our standard up front or at our standard as a team. Cincinnati has a lot to do with that. … We’ve got to get better. KJ made good decisions in the run game. He’ll get better as the year goes on as well.”

Arkansas will try to defend South Carolina’s quarterback from the pocket, and he noted 2 impressive traits about Spencer Rattler.

“I think he’s still a really good player. He’s dangerous with all the throws. … Throws a really, really great long ball,” Pittman said. “We have to keep him inside the pocket. When he gets outside the pocket, he’s the most accurate quarterback I’ve seen in a long, long time. … He’s an excellent player who has a strong arm and can run.”
