SEC considering change to intraconference transfer deadline

SEC spring meetings began on Tuesday in Destin, Florida. By the end of the week, some major changes could be made.
One of those changes involves the intraconference transfer deadline. Currently, if a player wants to transfer from one SEC school to another without having to sit out a year, it has to be done by Feb. 1.
But, per reports from Destin, the league is considering moving that deadline back to May 1 — the same deadline as the NCAA has for all transfers:
Live in Destin @On3: Most interesting SEC proposal on the docket at the spring meetings is to eliminate in the Feb. 1 deadline for intraconference transfers and move it to May 1 for immediately eligibility — which is the same as the rest of the NCAA.

This is an interesting one from the SEC meetings. When I went to Big 12/Big Ten/Pac-12 meetings, some ADs/coaches/admins were saying they wanted their leagues to consider an intraconference transfer portal deadline like the SEC’s.

As Andy Staples mentions in the above tweet, some conferences are considering making a deadline like the SEC’s, while the SEC is considering moving it back.
We’ll see what ultimately gets decided this week in Destin, but this is one of many issues that will likely be voted on in the coming days.
