In recent weeks, we’ve been asking fans of every SEC team to provide their input on a variety of topics.
One of those topics has been the quarterback battles happening at a number of programs throughout spring and fall camp.
Who do the fans hope win the various SEC quarterback battles? Here are the results:
Alabama Quarterback Battle
Most fans have assumed Jake Coker would win the job for some time, but he has yet to be named the starter over the upcoming David Cornwell. In our recent survey to Alabama fans, 63% of the participants selected Jake Coker as the QB they hope will be the week one starter.
- Jake Coker: 63%
- David Cornwell: 21%
- Blake Barnett: 16%
Georgia Quarterback Battle
Mark Richt has a quarterback battle going on between Brice Ramsey, Faton Bauta and Virginia transfer Greyson Lambert. Most have interpreted Richt’s recent comments to mean that Bauta is not really in the running for the job anymore, and that the QB battle is now a two horse race between Ramsey and Lambert. When asked a few weeks ago, 62% of fans preferred Ramsey over Lambert and Bauta.
- Brice Ramsey: 62%
- Greyson Lambert: 21%
- Faton Bauta: 17%
Florida Quarterback Battle
With Jeff Driskel gone, the Florida quarterback position is down to Will Grier (redshirted in 2014) and Treon Harris. Harris has the game experience, but many think Grier might be the better fit in Jim McElwain’s system. Despite having some moments in 2014 such as the win at Tennessee, fans don’t seem to be convinced that Harris is the guy.
- Will Grier: 72%
- Treon Harris: 18%
LSU Quarterback Battle
LSU fans overwhelmingly prefer Brandon Harris over Anthony Jennings. Jennings took most of the snaps in 2014 and failed to complete 50% of his passes.
- Brandon Harris: 89%
- Anthony Jennings: 11%
Ole Miss Quarterback Battle
With Bo Wallace gone, Ole Miss has a trio competing for the quarterback position. Fans prefer the upside of Chad Kelly over Ryan Buchanan and DeVante Kincade. Kelly transferred from East Mississippi Community College after previously being kicked off Clemson’s team.
- Chad Kelly: 73%
- Ryan Buchanan: 18%
- DeVante Kincade: 9%
Kentucky Quarterback Battle
Despite starting all 12 games last season, Patrick Towles has been battling Drew Barker to keep his position as Kentucky’s starting QB. Most fans want and expect Towles to keep the job for 2015.
- Patrick Towles: 94%
- Drew Barker: 6%
Vanderbilt Quarterback Battle
Vandy’s quarterback situation was a mess in 2014. With Patton Robinette quitting football to focus on medical school this spring, the battle has mostly been between Johnny McCrary, Kyle Shurmur and Wade Freebeck. McCrary passed for 985 yards and nine touchdowns last season.
- Johnny McCrary: 66%
- Kyle Shurmur: 25%
