SEC football is already underway as Vanderbilt was first team to play in Week 0’s action. Week 1 is when the rest of the SEC teams will start play, with Florida kicking things off on Thursday.
The rest of the games on the SEC’s Week 1 schedule will take place from Saturday-Sunday. There will be plenty of non-conference and conference matchups for fans to watch in the month of September alone.
As the season starts to move further into the fall, teams around the country will start to have their National Championship and SEC title odds will start to change.
Before Week 1 happens, here are some of the top games taking place in September (or Week 1):
Florida at Utah (Thursday, Aug. 31)
Last season’s showdown between the Gators and Utes had a spectacular finish after Cam Rising threw an interception in the redzone. The game will be tougher for Florida this time around as it will be on the road in Salt Lake City. Florida escaped The Swamp with a 29-26 win last year and if this game is anything like that, fans and neutrals alike should be in for a treat.
North Carolina at South Carolina (Saturday, Sept. 2)
There’s nothing like a rivalry between states that border each other. The Carolinas are set to battle each other in Week 1. If the Gamecocks can harness their form towards the end of last year, look out. Drake Maye and the Tar Heels are definitely capable of putting up points as well. Shane Beamer and Mack Brown will be going head-to-head at the home of the Carolina Panthers in Bank of America Stadium. South Carolina could start things off with a ranked upset if all goes to plan.
LSU at Florida State (Sunday, Sept. 3)
There’s not much that needs to be said about this game. A blocked extra point was the difference between the Tigers and Seminoles last season. LSU and Florida State face each other in a battle of ranked teams at Camping World Stadium. Brian Kelly will have his team ready to go to war with the Seminoles after how the last game ended.
Ole Miss at Tulane (Saturday, Sept. 9)
A game featuring some high-powered offenses from a season ago? Yes please. Last season, Ole Miss had the third-most offensive yards per game in the SEC with 496.4. Tulane averaged 441.4 total offensive yards each outing, which ranked fifth in the AAC. Jaxson Dart is back behind center for the Rebels. Michael Pratt is back for another year on the Green Wave side. What more could you ask for?
Texas at Alabama (Saturday, Sept. 9)
Is Texas back? Alabama fans are hoping to shut down that notion again in 2023. The 11th-ranked Longhorns travel to Tuscaloosa in Week 2 for their second-consecutive meeting with the Crimson Tide. Alabama won last year’s meeting on a game-winning field goal thanks to a late drive by Bryce Young. Nick Saban is going up against another one of his former assistants on the football field in what should be a great game.
