Who showed out on gameday during Week 9 of the SEC season? Here’s a quick glance:
ALABAMA: The Crimson Tide completed just 14 passes at Tennessee, but nine went to Heisman candidate Amari Cooper who dissected the Vols secondary with 224 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
ARKANSAS: We love fat guy touchdowns, but fat touchdown passes are even better. Junior tackle Sebastian Tretola’s 6-yard scoring toss to long snapper Alan D’Appollonio on a trick play in the second quarter gave the Razorbacks a 28-0 lead against UAB.
AUBURN: Nick Marshall scored three times on the ground, completed 12-of-14 passes and connected with Brandon Fulse on a 3-yard touchdown to lead the Tigers’ offensive explosion against South Carolina.
KENTUCKY: Quarterback Patrick Towles threw for a career-high 390 yards, ran for 76 more and accounted for four total touchdowns in the Wildcats’ upset try of Mississippi State.
LSU: We need a sticker sheet for John Chavis’ defense, a hard-hitting group that bent but never did break during an upset win over previously unbeaten Ole Miss.
MISSISSIPPI: Safety Cody Prewitt forced a fumble on a strip and recovered a fumble at the goal line for the Rebels’ landshark defense.
MISSISSIPPI ST.: Josh Robinson took over the SEC rushing lead with a heroic 198-yard effort in Lexington. Robinson scored two touchdowns including a 73-yard gallop.
MISSOURI: Wideout Bud Sasser reached the end zone twice — his first touchdowns since Sept. 13 — as the Tigers shook off recent offensive struggles during a victory over Vanderbilt.
SOUTH CAROLINA: On his birthday, Dylan Thompson threw a career-high five touchdown passes during the Gamecocks’ loss at Auburn.
TENNESSEE: Third-team quarterback Josh Dobbs made plays against a stout Alabama defense on limited notice, accounting for 267 yards and two touchdowns.
VANDERBILT: Johnny McCrary’s 196 yards through the air was the most by a Commodores quarterback this season, but it wasn’t enough in a loss to Mizzou.
