ESPN has released its updated power rankings following Week 5 of the college football season, and 4 SEC teams find themselves in the top 10.
We’ll start at No. 10 and work our way closer to No. 1. Starting with No. 10, we have the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Tide are coming off a huge road victory over the Georgia Bulldogs, snapping their 33-game home win streak. Ty Simpson stayed hot in this game, completing 24 of his 38 passes for 276 yards and 2 touchdowns. Running back Jam Miller made his season debut and took 16 carries for 46 yards. Alabama will host No. 16 Vanderbilt this weekend.
Moving up to No. 6, we have the Oklahoma Sooners. The Sooners were on a bye in Week 5, and with star quarterback John Mateer being sidelined for at least a few weeks, it couldn’t have come at a better time. Mateer and the Oklahoma offense have been electric. Their next game is this weekend against Kent State.
We don’t have to climb much further for the next SEC team — the Texas A&M Aggies slot in at No. 5. Despite not throwing a touchdown pass, the Aggies slugged it out with Auburn this past weekend and came away with a 16-10 victory. The Aggies’ defense was on another level, holding Auburn to just 1 yard in the 4th quarter and 176 for the total game. Texas A&M will host Mississippi State this weekend.
Climbing just one spot up, we find the last of the SEC teams, and it is the Ole Miss Rebels coming in at No. 4. Ole Miss is coming off huge win over the LSU Tigers in which they nearly doubled the Tigers’ total yardage. Ferris State transfer Trinidad Chambliss has been a star so far, delivering 3 consecutive 300-yard passing games. Ole Miss will be on a bye this weekend but will host Washington State on Oct. 11.
