SEC leads all conferences, as 10 players named Golden Spikes Award semifinalists

The Golden Spikes Award is certainly the most prestigious in college baseball. It’s given annually to the most outstanding amateur baseball player in the country.
The semifinalists for the 2019 award have been announced, and the SEC led the nation with 10. Three SEC teams — Mississippi State, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt — each had two players on the list. JJ Bleday and Austin Martin made it from Vandy. John Doxakis and Asa Lacy both made it for TAMU, while Jake Mangum and Ethan Small made it for Mississippi State.
All total, seven different SEC teams were represented, and it speaks volumes to the strength of the league as a whole.
Here are all of the semifinalists:

- Isaiah Campbell, P, Arkansas
- John Doxakis, P, Texas A&M
- Emerson Hancock, P, Georgia
- Asa Lacy, P, Texas A&M
- Jake Mangum, OF, Miss State
- Austin Martin, 3B, Vanderbilt
- TJ Sikkema, P, Missouri
- Ethan Small, P, Miss State
- Zach Thompson, P, Kentucky
Currently in the SEC, Vanderbilt leads the SEC East with a 20-7 conference record, while Arkansas leads the SEC West with a 19-8 record. The SEC Tournament starts Tuesday, May 21 from Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
