Kirby Smart and Jimbo Fisher have known each other for years. The pair first met at LSU in 2004 as members of Nick Saban’s staff, when Fisher was the offensive coordinator and Smart had been hired as the defensive backs coach after being a graduate assistant at Florida State.  There was an urban legend perpetuated by Fisher that the 2 played pickup basketball against each other back in those days, but that was playfully shut down by Smart.

And they’ve been on different paths over the past few years. While Fisher won a title with Florida State in 2013, he hasn’t been able to quite replicate the same success since taking the reins at Texas A&M in 2018. Meanwhile, Smart has enjoyed immense success at Georgia, eventually set to win his 50th game as a head coach in his 5th season.

But with the news coming out that Smart was on a group text with a trio of former Saban assistants turned head coaches in Jeremy Pruitt, Lane Kiffin and Will Muschamp, what would a call between him and Fisher sound like? Thanks to SEC Network analyst Matt Stinchcomb via an appearance on TexAgs Radio on Friday, we may have an idea.

You can listen to the entire “call” below:
