SEC Network analyst questions if conference has QB that can win national championship
SEC Network analyst Chris Doering never won a national championship at Florida, but the former Gators quarterback was quite good during his time in Gainesville.
Doering was a 1st-team All-SEC selection and a 2nd-team All-American in 1995, his final season at Florida. He won a lot of games in Gainesville, but just couldn’t quite get the Gators over the hump (they won the national title the following season, by the way).
So Doering has an interesting perspective on SEC quarterbacks and their ability to lead their programs to a national championship. There are plenty of great QBs in the conference in 2024, as always, and plenty of great teams. But Doering just questions whether any of those quarterbacks have the ability to lead any of those teams all the way to the finish line.
On Tuesday’s SEC This Morning, Doering discussed the topic of SEC quarterbacks and their ability to have staying power in 2024 — as in, lead their teams through the jungle of a 12-team Playoff and to the holy grail of a national championship. He has his concerns about inconsistent quarterback play in the conference.
“I wonder if, at the end of the year, it costs the SEC a national championship,” said Doering.

Time will tell, of course, if Doering’s concerns are valid or unwarranted.
