The 10 SEC teams in action in Week 11 played their most disciplined football of the season, as six of 10 teams committed fewer than five penalties and eight of 10 teams committed six or fewer penalties for fewer than 50 yards.
Florida was the least disciplined team of the week, committing 10 penalties for more than 80 yards. Nevertheless, the Gators still defeated Vanderbilt by 24 points to earn their second straight win in the conference.
On the other end of the spectrum, the LSU Tigers committed the fewest penalties of the week — two for 20 yards — but the Tigers still lost at home in overtime against Alabama.
Vanderbilt committed six penalties for 49 in its loss to Florida, raising its SEC-worst penalty total to 70 for 582 yards this season. Only one other SEC team has committed more than 60 penalties on the season, Auburn, and the Tigers didn’t help their total either in committing eight penalties for 65 yards in a loss to Texas A&M.
Despite committing nine fewer penalties than Vandy, Auburn has amassed 30 more penalty yards than the Commodores this season. The Tigers have averaged the most yards per penalty of any team in the SEC this year.
Tennessee remains the only team in the conference with fewer than 40 penalties and 300 penalty yards. The Vols were off in Week 11 and maintained a total of 36 fouls for just 254 yards.
