SEC Shorts is back for the 2025 season with its first new sketch since January.
Player compensation is the subject of Monday’s sketch. A Georgia football staffer travels back in time to 1965 to solicit donations from alumni.
As expected, the 1965 fans of college football are blown away by the idea of players getting paid. And it wouldn’t be an SEC Shorts sketch without some zingers.
One of the 1965 fans notes that despite all the future changes to college football, she can at least count on guaranteed wins for Alabama over Vanderbilt. The Georgia staffer says he doesn’t want to spoil anything for her, and leaves it at that.
The Auburn fan from 1965 is confident that the current AU coach will soon show up to ask for NIL donations to go toward recruiting efforts. The video instead cuts to the golf course. Hugh Freeze has addressed criticism that he plays too much golf as Auburn’s recruiting class ranks far behind its SEC rivals.
In a twist, the same staffer shows up as a 2026 staffer and reveals that the House Settlement has fallen apart. Instead of soliciting donations from the past, the new strategy is to invest in the past and count on decades of compound interest.
