Here’s a look at the SEC’s top position groups by team from Week 2:
QUARTERBACKS — Florida: Kurt Roper’s debut as Florida’s play-caller resulted in near flawless execution from his quarterbacks Jeff Driskel and Treon Harris. In his return from injury, Driskel completed 31 of 45 passes on screens, checkdowns, outs and crosses to finish with 248 yards. Harris, a true freshman, had a spectacular opening appearance, completing two passes for 148 yards and a pair of scores.
RUNNING BACKS — Arkansas: The Razorbacks’ offensive line deserves credit for opening up gaping holes at the line of scrimmage, but the backfield did the rest to the tune of a SEC-high 495 yards rushing and five touchdowns. Jonathan Williams’ 90-yard scoring scamper will be replayed throughout the season along with wideout Keon Hatcher’s 82-yard reverse on the first play from scrimmage.
WIDE RECEIVERS — LSU: The Tigers’ youth movement at wide receiver (a sophomore and three freshmen) combined 218 yards on nine catches led by Travin Dural who scored three touchdowns including a 94-yarder. LSU’s other two completions went to running back Leonard Fournette.
OFFENSIVE LINE — Alabama: Crimson Tide quarterbacks Blake Sims and Jacob Coker had plenty of time to operate during Alabama’s home opener, a 41-0 stomping of Florida Atlanta. Sacked once on 45 combined drop-backs, Sims and Coker finished with 430 total passing yards and three touchdowns. Alabama averaged 5.9 yards per carry on the ground.
DEFENSIVE LINE — LSU: During a shutout of Sam Houston State, the Tigers’ front four combined for 4.5 (two from Sione Teuhema) of LSU’s seven sacks.
LINEBACKERS — Kentucky: Defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot had to be pleased with Saturday’s performance from his linebackers in the Wildcats’ 4-2-5 base against Ohio. Khalid Henderson recovered and Josh Forrest collected four tackles as Kentucky held Ohio to three points and just 223 total yards.
DEFENSIVE BACKS — Ole Miss: The SEC’s top secondary in terms of talent returned an interception for a touchdown and limited Vanderbilt quarterback Stephen Rivers to 60 yards passing for a QBR of 3.9. Veteran Mike Hilton defended a team-best three passes on a defense that gave up just nine first downs.
