Shane Beamer has a history with Spencer Rattler, and understands what the South Carolina quarterback has faced, because the coach was there at Oklahoma when Rattler and the Sooners lost 2 straight Big 12 games. But Beamer also saw how Rattler bounced back, and that’s why he’s comfortable with how the quarterback will handle pressure.

Beamer shared thoughts on their history, and didn’t go along with the narrative that there’s pressure on Rattler to deliver. Beamer recalled that Rattler already replaced at Oklahoma Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts.

“Never flinched,” Beamer said at SEC Media Days, and pointed out that Rattler hasn’t lost a game as a starting quarterback. “… I don’t worry about Spencer. There may be some outside pressure with him. He’s been through the fire before. I saw first hand how he handled it when he was at Oklahoma and started out 0-2. He never flinched and continued to get better. There’ll be some ups, there’ll be some downs I’m sure this season. We have no worries about him from that standpoint being able to handle it.”

Beamer added that the Gamecocks need to be great around the quarterback, players and coaches, and help him, and for Rattler to not necessarily be Super Man, but just be himself.

“I’m confident that he will,” Beamer said.
