Shane Beamer and Mark Stoops have had a bit of a skirmish in recent days following Stoops’ comments from SEC Media Days about building climate versus culture, and a reference to “stupid sunglasses” when Beamer was part of a viral video wearing sunglasses.
Beamer before a crowd over the weekend doubled down on how the culture and climate is “hot” at South Carolina.
“I appreciate Coach Stoops saying it wasn’t directed at me. … I can’t imagine he would’ve gotten out of his lane to direct a shot at me,” Beamer said on Tuesday, referring to other comments Stoops’ made about John Calipari.
Beamer said 2 or 3 of the Kentucky assistants came up to him before their game last year and complimented him about the Gamecocks’ culture.
“It is what it is, he’s got his program to worry about, I’ve got mine to worry about,” Beamer said. “My respect for him is still high, and that program as well.”
