Shane Beamer is ‘optimistic’ LaNorris Sellers will be able to play vs. Mizzou in Week 4
Shane Beamer told reporters on Sunday he was “optimistic” that star quarterback LaNorris Sellers would be able to play in next Saturday night’s SEC showdown at No. 23 Missouri.
The South Carolina head coach was asked by reporters during his weekly teleconference if Sellers was dealing with a concussion after being knocked out by a helmet-to-helmet hit during Saturday night’s loss to Vanderbilt.
Beamer was coy.
“I don’t get into specific injuries,” said the Gamecocks head coach, whose team couldn’t recover from Sellers’ absence on Saturday and fell 31-7 to the Commodores at home. The State was first to relay Beamer’s comments on his star quarterback’s status.
The loss to Vanderbilt knocked Shane Beamer‘s team from the ranks of the unbeaten and also from the AP Top 25, so the Gamecocks will head to the other Columbia to play Mizzou as an unranked team. Beamer just hopes he has his starting quarterback at the helm next Saturday after he was injured in the 2nd quarter following that vicious hit by Vanderbilt linebacker Langston Patterson, who was ejected for targeting on the play.
The first SEC availability report of the week is released on Wednesday night, so Sellers’ status for Week 4 will be updated then.
Mizzou is riding high at 3-0 heading into its SEC opener against Beamer’s team, so getting Sellers back on the field for the primetime showdown (7 p.m. ET, ESPN) on the road will be crucial.
