Shane Beamer and South Carolina lost a heartbreaking game to Alabama on Saturday, as the Gamecocks fell 29-22. After trailing by eight at the break the Gamecocks dominated much of the second half and had an 8-point lead with just a couple minutes remaining.

After Alabama tied the game with 2:16 remaining, South Carolina had another chance. But quarterback LaNorris Sellers fumbled the ball and the Crimson Tide would take advantage with a 25-yard run by Germie Bernard to get the win.

After the game, Beamer talked to reporters and told them the film session was going to be brutal to see all of the missed chances to win the game.

“Got to finish. Got an eight-point lead in the fourth quarter at home,” Beamer said. “We didn’t finish, and they did. We’re going to be sick when we watch this tape.”

The Gamecocks had a ton of optimism and hype entering this season, following last year’s impressive run to end the season. However, with the loss, the Gamecocks are now 3-5 on the year, including a 1-5 record in the SEC.

What they had hoped would be a season where they contended for the SEC and the College Football Playoff has now turned into a season where they have to win three of their last four games to become bowl eligible. The schedule gets no easier next week, as the Gamecocks travel to Oxford to take on an Ole Miss team that moved to 7-1 after a big win at Oklahoma.
