Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks had a huge game on Saturday night against SEC rival Missouri. However, after the first quarter, Beamer’s thoughts were with former Gamecocks quarterback Connor Shaw, who had a serious health scare at his child’s youth football game earlier this week.
During the end of the quarter interview, Beamer gave a shoutout to Shaw, while also saying that he was able to leave the hospital and go home on Saturday.
“Connor Shaw, I know you’re watching back home in South Carolina. I know you went home today,” Beamer said. “We love you brother, and we’re thinking of you, my man. God bless.”
Shaw, 33, was a quarterback at South Carolina from 2011-2013. He was a dual-threat player for the Gamecocks, as he passed for 6,074 yards and ran for 1,693 yards. During his time there, South Carolina was 27-5.
South Carolina is looking to avoid a two-game losing streak on Saturday night as it battles Mizzou in the Mayor’s Cup on the road. The Tigers are 8-6 all-time in the Mizzou vs. South Carolina rivalry entering Saturday night’s contest.
