So close: Ole Miss survives as Texas A&M’s potential game-tying FG attempt falls just short

Texas A&M came this close to tying Week 10’s SEC West matchup between the Aggies and No. 10 Ole Miss Rebels Saturday afternoon.

The 2 squads went back and forth during the 2nd half, with the Aggies taking a 35-31 lead with under 5 to go. The Rebels marched down the field thanks to some great running from Quinshon Judkins and a key reception and jaunt from Tre Harris, retaking the lead 38-35.

Max Johnson played well Saturday, and the Aggies QB put his team in a position to head to overtime. He drove the field and set up kicker Randy Bond for a 47-yard FG attempt.

But the Rebels got good push on the line and were able to get just a sliver of leather on the football. It fell just a foot or 2 ahead of the crossbar as time expired.

Here’s a look from behind the goalpost:

Texas A&M has still yet to win a road matchup this season.

Ole Miss, on the other hand, continues to win close games this season. The Rebels are 4-0 in 1-possession games, including a huge 55-49 win over LSU earlier in the season.

Ole Miss, sitting at 8-1 on the year, will face off against Georgia next week in its biggest matchup of the 2023 season thus far. Find a way to pull out a win and a shot at the CFP is all of a sudden very, very real.

Easier said than done.
