The first half of Texas A&M and Miami‘s first-round College Football Playoff game on Saturday afternoon has made history for the wrong reasons. It’s 0-0, the first Playoff game that’s been scoreless at halftime.
As you can tell from looking at the score (if you haven’t been watching), this game hasn’t been a work of art.
Miami’s Carter Davis has attempted two field goals and Texas A&M’s Jared Zirkel has attempted one. Zirkel’s try from 22 yards was blocked. Davis missed on attempts of 47 and 40 yards.
The Aggies have outgained the Hurricanes 175-69. Defensively, they’ve held the Canes to 1-of-7 on third down. The Canes’ drive chart: Punt, punt, punt, punt, missed field goal, missed field goal.
A&M’s offense hasn’t capitalized, though.
The Aggies were in field goal range on their first drive before a false start led them to punt. They turned it over on their next drive after Marcel Reed was ruled to have lost the ball before his arm came forward on a pass attempt. On their next drive, Zirkel’s chip-shot try was blocked. A false start on their next possession led to a three-and-out before turning it over on downs the next time they had the ball.
Going into the halftime break, it seems as if everyone on social media had the same reaction:
