Williams-Brice Stadium is getting an entertainment upgrade this fall.
South Carolina has announced the addition of an in-stadium live DJ for the 2017 season.
“Our music wasn’t where it needed to be. It just wasn’t resonating with any segment of the fan base. It needed a refresh. The new DJ will provide that refresh,” marketing director Eric Nichols told The State. “Everyone’s pulling the same direction that recruiting is our No. 1 focus. With that being the direction, it’s a natural fit.”
Some of South Carolina’s familiar foes, such as Clemson, Tennessee, Missouri and Kentucky feature a live DJ in the stadium. South Carolina’s DJ will play during pregame and during timeouts when the band is not playing, according to Nichols. As far as music between plays, the Gamecocks will see what resonates with fans.
“It’s not like we’re going to play music between every play, but we will be learning from Game 1 to Game 7 what resonates with the fans and the players,” Nichols said. “I expect it to be very positive. The music is an area that we needed to improve, and we are putting human resources and financial resources into making it better.”
The DJ, who has not yet been hired, will play from a stand near section 10, above the Gamecocks’ tunnel. Nichols insures that all music will be “clean and edited versions.”
No word on whether the DJ will play Sandstorm.
