The Fourth of July has been very nice to the South Carolina football program as the Gamecocks have landed commitment yet another verbal pledge. Following the commitment of junior college defensive lineman Jabari Ellis, Will Muschamp’s program picked up another top 2018 target as Florida running back Lavonte Valentine announced his decision to join the Spurs Up rebellion.

Rated as a three-star prospect and the nation’s No. 13 all-purpose back by 247Sports Composite Ratings, Valentine commits to South Carolina over offers from Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Oregon and USC among others. The 6-foot, 188-pound back is considered to be among the fastest prospects from the Sunshine State in the 2018 recruiting cycle.

Valentine announced his decision via Twitter with the following message:

Following Valentine’s commitment, South Carolina now has 12 total commits in the 2018 recruiting cycle. The Gamecock class rates No. 31 in the nation and No. 6 in the SEC early in July, with plenty of time to make a significant jump up the rankings.
