South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains is expected to accept the head coaching job at App State, according to a report.

That’s per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, who notes that the deal is not yet finalized. However the 2 parties are expected to come to an agreement “in the near future.”

Loggains has been excellent this season for the Gamecocks, particularly in the development of quarterback LaNorris Sellers. South Carolina was arguably the SEC’s best team during the month of November, and a big part of that was South Carolina’s offense coming into its own during the final month of the regular season.

South Carolina averaged a whopping 7.3 yards per play during November, which was by far the highest mark of any SEC team. Sellers also had his best month in November, leading all SEC QBs (min. 100 attempts) in passer efficiency rating at 181.8.

Loggains spent 2 seasons at South Carolina after spending most of his coaching career in the NFL. It’s unclear if Shane Beamer will look to make a hire from outside the program to replace Loggains or if he would focus on internal candidates, should this move become official.
