On Monday, a report surfaced quoting South Carolina president Robert Caslen saying that South Carolina AD Ray Tanner had reached out to Florida State about how it raised money for Willie Taggart’s massive buyout.
Obviously, that doesn’t bode well for coach Will Muschamp’s future, especially in the midst of a 4-7 season.
However, later on Monday night, Caslen had to release another statement about how no one spoke with FSU:

“Let me set the record straight: Athletics Director Ray Tanner did not speak with anyone at Florida State University about coaching contracts,” the statement reads.
Notice that Caslen didn’t deny that he said what he said. He simply “set the record straight.”
Either his first statement was a lie or this followup statement is a lie. What a strange situation.
Perhaps he should limit the amount he speaks with the media, as he keeps having to issue more and more statements.
