After his “promise” to never lose to Clemson went viral, South Carolina 2018 quarterback commit Dakereon Joyner is walking back those statements. However, despite his public apology, Joyner remains confident in his beliefs regarding the Tigers.

If you missed it earlier in the week, Joyner posted an image with these comments regarding Clemson: “They gone feel what they missed out on I promise y’all.” The South Carolina native was actively pursued by both schools over during his recruitment but ultimately ended up committing to the Gamecocks.

In a sign of respect, Joyner has issued the following apology, with the caveat of continued promise for South Carolina’s odds in the future with him on the roster:

With head coach Will Muschamp continuing to build up the Gamecock brand in Columbia and the with the swagger of players like Joyner, it may not be long before South Carolina is able to take a real swing at current in-state champion Clemson. If nothing else, the rejuvenated Gamecock program is bringing back some juice to one of the South’s best in-state rivalries.
