Any die hard Cyrus Jones fans who went out and bought his New England No. 24 jersey are now out of luck. An offseason free agent acquisition of the Patriots — formerly of Buffalo, Stephon Gilmore recently revealed he has seized the No. 24 jersey from the second-year pro from Alabama.

After signing a five-year, $65 million contract with $31 million in fully guaranteed money, Gilmore surely has enough capital to put toward buying the jersey from Jones. Despite that fact, Gilmore claims he didn’t part ways with any money to get the number. He states the two came to a simple agreement regarding the jersey.

“I just asked him, ‘Can we do it?’ and we just came to the conclusion that we were going to switch,” Gilmore revealed Thursday, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “He was genuine enough to do it so I was happy for it.”

Gilmore did not reveal any specifics regarding the switch but did offer his past relationship with Jones as evidence of a smooth transition.

“We talked about it,” Gilmore said. “I already knew him from previous years. We just made a decision that we would make it happen.”

As for Jones, he will now be wearing No. 41 for the Patriots.
