Steve Sarkisian has picked up a multi-year extension at Texas ahead of the Longhorns’ first season in the SEC.

Sarkisian recently completed Year 3 of his initial six-year deal at UT. With a four-year extension, he’s now on contract through 2030.

“I said it when I came here three years ago, this is a dream job for me. It’s a destination job, and I’m fired up every day to be the head coach at The University of Texas,” Sarkisian said in a program release.

“We’re thrilled with what we’ve been able to accomplish and proud of the culture we’ve built and the way our players have grown — on and off the field. But we’re just getting started. I’ve said it all along, we’ve been building this program for long term success. We’re here to chase greatness, win championships, and be one of the best in the nation year in and year out.”

Sarkisian’s extension comes after the Alabama coaching search rocked the college football world. Sarkisian, who was offensive coordinator for Alabama’s 2020 national championship season, was named as a potential candidate to succeed Nick Saban.

Texas is coming off its best season under Sarkisian so far, going 12-2. Highlights of the 2023 campaign included a win over Alabama in Tuscaloosa, a Big 12 championship and a trip to the College Football Playoff.

Sarkisian, 49, is 25-14 in his Texas tenure. He has 71-49 overall record including his stops at Washington and USC.
