Texas fans have high expectations for the Longhorns offense under Steve Sarkisian after his success as Alabama’s play-caller. Heading into season one of the Sark era in Austin, it appears the Longhorns are still trying to find their starting quarterback.
Casey Thompson and Hudson Card are the top contenders to be Sam Ehlinger’s successor. Sarkisian called their play subpar in the team’s first scrimmage.

Thompson is the more experienced QB of the two, signing with Texas in 2018. Card is a class of 2020 signee. Both players were 4-star recruits on the 247Sports Composite.
Last season, Thompson played in three games, going 12-of-17 passing for 225 yards and 6 touchdowns. Card played in two games, going 1-of-3 passing for 5 yards.
Texas opens the 2021 season at home against Louisiana on Sept. 4 and then travels to Arkansas in Week 2.
