There’s always a high level of competitiveness between opponents ahead of a matchup in college football, and the upcoming contest between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Texas Longhorns is no different.

But in the week before the game, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian took some time to reflect on his gratefulness for Alabama coach Nick Saban’s involvement in his career, going as far as to say Saban “saved my career.”

“I’ve said this numerous times, but I would not be the head coach at Texas if it weren’t for Nick Saban,” Sarkisian told ESPN. “He gave me a chance when I had a hard time getting an interview, never mind a job. There were days that I thought, ‘Man, I’m never going to be a head coach again. I’m never going to be an offensive coordinator again. I’m never going to get another job.’

“But Coach Saban took a chance on me when I needed somebody to believe in me again.”

There are high expectations surrounding Sarkisian and things appear to be on the up for him after a little help from Saban as he looks to make and keep the Longhorns a consistently nationally relevant team.

Alabama and Texas are set to kick off at 11 a.m. CT in Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
