The SEC might not be viewed as a basketball-first conference, but that doesn’t mean it’s been unsuccessful in the postseason.
In fact, it might surprise people to know that ahead of the start of the Sweet 16 on Thursday night, it’s actually the SEC that boasts the best winning percentage in the Sweet 16 the last 10 seasons. The SEC was a staggering 13-3 in Sweet 16 matchups from 2008-17.
Paul Finebaum shared that stat on his show:

Obviously Kentucky owns plenty of of those victories. John Calipari is 6-0 in Sweet 16 matchups since arriving in Lexington. During that stretch in Sweet 16 matchups, Florida was 5-0 while Tennessee was 1-2, South Carolina was 1-0 and Texas A&M was 0-1.
Perhaps Kentucky and Texas A&M can add to that favorable SEC stat tonight in the Sweet 16.
The Aggies face No. 3-seed Michigan at 7:37 p.m. ET and Kentucky will square off with No. 9-seed Kansas State at 9:37 p.m. ET.
