Tennessee basketball is making the biggest headlines right now in Knoxville, with the underdog Volunteers playing Michigan for a trip to the Final Four on Sunday in Chicago.

But Josh Heupel‘s football program made a pretty big recruiting splash on Saturday, with prized 2027 wide receiver recruit Kesean Bowman committing to Tennessee. The Nashville product confirmed his intentions to stay in-state to On3’s Hayes Fawcett late Saturday afternoon.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound 4-star product didn’t just choose Tennessee on Saturday. He chose the Vols over some big-time programs, including bitter SEC rival Alabama. Bowman also was considering another SEC rival from down the road in Vanderbilt and Ohio State was in the mix for Bowman, too, so Saturday’s commitment was a big-time gain for Heupel as he continues to try to build Tennessee into a true national title contender.

Bowman celebrated his decision by writing on social media: “Roots too deep to leave. … I’m home.”

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Bowman is the 41st-ranked player overall in the Class of 2027. Those Composite rankings also have Bowman as the 7th-ranked wideout in the Class of 2027 and the second-ranked player in the entire state of Tennessee.

Bowman, who has been taking trips to Tennessee since he was in middle school, becomes the Volunteers’ 6th recruit in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Of those 6 players, 4 are from Tennessee, so the Vols are doing a great job of keeping prime talent in the state.

Tennessee’s 2027 recruiting class currently ranks 16th in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Bowman can’t help the Volunteers until the 2027 season, but Tennessee figures to be in the mix for a College Football Playoff spot in 2026. Here is what the Kalshi market currently sees regarding the top teams it believes have a shot to be in the Playoff come this December:
