Tennessee fans will have to wait another week for Cooper Mays’ return.

A report from WBIR’s Karthik Venkataraman stated that Ollie Lane will be starting at center once again. However, Venkataraman also said that Mays is expected to be back in time for the South Carolina game.

Lane has started all three games thus far at center. Mays underwent surgery for an undisclosed injury on Aug. 9 and has not played in a game for the Vols in 2023.

Josh Heupel announced that Mays would be a game time decision, but it sounds like the veteran offensive lineman might not play once again.

The offensive line will be much better with Mays on it. He started all 13 games at center for the Volunteers last season. It may be better for Mays to be at 100% for Week 5, however.

Tennessee faces UTSA for the first time in program history in Week 4. Kickoff from Rocky Top will be at 4 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
