Al Wilson was a superstar during his time at Tennessee, earning All-SEC honors in 1997 and 1998. He also was a team captain on the Vols’ 1998 team that won a national championship.

Now, he’s a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, being inducted as part of the 2021 class.

So, the Vols are eager to honor him, and they’ll do so in a cool way this season. When the Vols kick off the 2021 season on Thursday night against Bowling Green, the 27-yard line will have a plaque honoring Wilson:

Wilson had 272 total tackles during his time on Rocky Top. He was a first-round pick in the 1999 NFL Draft. He spent his entire 7-year NFL career with the Denver Broncos before injuries forced him to retire in 2008.
